Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of the endogenous immunopeptide tuftsin, developed at the Russian Institute of Molecular Genetics. It is approved in Russia as an intranasal anxiolytic and produces effects without the sedation profile of benzodiazepines. Reported research benefits: reduction of anxiety and stress-related behavior without sedation, tolerance, or withdrawal; improvements in working memory, attention, and learning; upregulation of hippocampal BDNF; stabilization of mood through enkephalinase inhibition; immunomodulation with enhanced macrophage activity and interferon production; antiviral activity in influenza models; and rebalancing of GABA-A receptor subunit expression associated with stress resilience.
